SARS has a 10.9% fatality rate. Between November 2002 and July 2003 SARS caused 8,422 cases and 916 deaths worldwide.
SARS has no treatment, cure, or vaccine, but scientists are testing all antiviral treatments to find a cure. Suspected cases of SARS being put in isolated negative pressure rooms. The most common treatment of SARS is a mixture of corticosteroids and Ribavirin, but they provide little results. This medicine is combined with Kaletra in early cases to give positive results. Lymphopenia is one side effect of corticosteroids.
